Q: How long to I have to be without my kitchen?

Q:  What is the difference between quartz and natural stone?

A:  Natural stone is from the earth, and has many different colors and shades.  Quartz or engineered stone is a man made product consisting of 93% quartz minerals and 7% resins.

Q:  What is the process?

A:  Your countertop measurements and stone selection are needed in order to give you a quote. Once you have received the quote a 50% deposit is required to start the work, and the additional 50% is due upon completion of the job.  An appointment to construct a template of your kitchen is scheduled to get the exact layout of your countertop.  At this time all details of the job are discussed including seams, colors, edges, and etc.  Finally an appointment is scheduled to install your new countertops.  Installations normally take one day to complete.

Q:  Do I have to seal my countertop?

A:  If you have quartz countertops you do not have to seal your countertop.  If you choose a natural stone we do an initial sealing of the countertops.  With the sealer we use you will not have to reseal your countertops for 3-5 years.  Sealing is a simple process that any customer can do.  The brand of sealer will determine the amount of time it will take and the frequency in which you have to seal your countertops.  Due to the sealer having to penetrate and saturate the stone it may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour to seal the countertops.

Q:  Do you have a warranty?

A:  We have a 24 month warranty on the product and a 60 month warranty on the labor.  Plumbing installations have a 30 day warranty, and faucets and sinks have a limited lifetime warranty.  If there is any defect in any of our sinks or faucets by the manufacturer, S&B Stoneworks will replace the accessory at no charge and have it reinstalled at no charge to the customer.

Q:  Can I keep my existing backsplash?

A:  In most cases yes, but check with the templater to ensure that it can be done.

TIPS

Do not get caught up in just the square foot prices.  Different companies charge different amounts for edges, trip charges, and cut outs.  Treat your countertop like anything else; compare your total price with the product or service you are purchasing.

Always check your slab before the fabricator starts on your project.   Most fabricators have a policy that once the slab is fabricated in any way full payment is due.  Slab colors may be different from the sample you originally selected.  Natural stone has many different shades mineral variations. You may have to visit a distributor to select a stone, but it is more important to get the project right.  The same applies to quartz surfacing.  Even though it is man made it has variations also.

Construction and remodeling is not an exact science.  Delays can happen for many different reasons.  Always allow more time than estimated to complete a project.  Ensure that all deadlines are in writing to avoid confusions, especially during the holiday season where there are tighter windows of time.

Prepare a list of questions for the templater when he comes.  The templater should be able to answer any questions that you may have concerning the project.  Edges, seam placement, and backsplash height are a few things that should be addressed.  Always ask questions and leave nothing to chance.  Fabricators are hand crafting your counter to your specifications.  If anything changes with your project let your fabricator know immediately.
